A tree as a system
You cannot fully understand something unless you view it as a whole. A tree is more than leaves, trunk and roots — it is a set of interacting components with matter and energy crossing its boundary. Work through the three steps to build the systems view, then save it into your notes.
Step 1 · Sort the components
35 components of a tree system, five categories. Work through the questions in order: anything crossing the boundary is an input or an output, even though it is also moving. Then check your answers.

Open the whiteboard and you'll get your own copy of the tree with every component as a colour-coded sticky note. Arrange them so their positions make sense — inputs arriving, outputs leaving, stores inside — then draw arrows to link them logically.

Step 3 · Save it into your notes
The board does not reach your notes by itself.
- On the whiteboard, open the menu (top left) and choose Export image.
- Pick PNG, keep Background ticked, then Export.
- Drag the PNG into your Notion notes for this lesson.
- Under it, write one sentence: which single arrow are you least sure about, and why?
That sentence is the part you will revise from. A diagram with nothing written under it is decoration.
